| life's a streak run |
“Streak running” is a term adopted by the U.S. Running Streak Association and other runners to describe people who run a mile or more every day without ever taking a day off. I entered this fraternity with my son Tim on August 15, 2007, and I have run a mile or more every day since then. Unlike 60’s-era “streakers,” with whom streak runners are often confused, we do not run naked (at least Tim and I do not).
Although not many people commit themselves to running a mile or more every day, just about all of us are engaged in some kind of “streak” – some activity or practice that we repeat day after day. Mindful eating; mindful living; prayer; meditation; conscientious parenting; journal writing; drawing; walking; devoting time to spouses, friends and pets; practicing the piano; communing with nature; renouncing addictions.
In this respect, we are all engaged in “streaks” of some kind or another, which led to the name of this blog: Life’s a Streak Run. All of us repeat certain practices day after day. Life can also feel like a joyous streak across a grassy lawn, executed with a sense of abandon and glee. And sometimes it seems like life – our own or other people’s – is here and gone in a streak.
Happy streaking!
